Pep Guardiola's Attacking Drill 28
The document is from 07-08 Barcelona B Team Session by Pep Guardiola.
As Guardiola sticks to strict game plan, it is notable to look at his drills despite it is more than decade old.
Drill #28 features 3 attacking players.
player 1
initiates the drill and pass the ball diagonally to wide attackingplayer 3
.player 3
passes the ball toplayer 2
.player 2
returns the ball back toplayer 1
and runs toward the box.player 2
puts ball deep through the flank.player 3
runs toward the space and cross the ball inside the box whereplayer 1
is situated.
The drill is very basic in its geometry.
Ball moves from central to wide, central, wide, and central again.
But what is notable in this set up is the clear instruction to each players.player 3
has to glide through defenders (yellow poles) and bypass another defender again.
While player 2
has to do the fake motion to lower the defense line and make space for himself.
Non-linear runs, passing speed, and the final delivery of the ball have to be synchronised.
Conduction in real match.
WOL v MCI s20/21 r2
This features same 3 attacking players but one less wide-and-central ball movement.
Foden comes down to receive pass and return it to De Bruyne who then puts the ball inside the box to Sterling.
Although the situation is different ( which is always ) the basic principle is perfectly conducted here.
Sterling positions himself between Adama Traore[37] and Willy Boly[15] and glides through the channel to receive the ball from De Bruyne.
Then he makes lovely faint kick motion to peel the pressure and find Foden to pass the ball.
Foden fails to locate the shot being surrounded by too many defenders.
But still they manage to complete the attacking sequence.
